 I have the VPS account with StartLogic and therefore any softwear problems I would have would be due to my own doing. I therefore can't comment on their shared hosting. The server is fast expecially when downloading files to the server through ssh, getting speeds up to 5 Mbit/sec.

They didn't have the most current version of MySQL or PHP preinstalled, or Apache. Therefore, I installed them without problem on the FreeBSD OS that they supplied. They provide the Webmin control pannel, which helps, though they didn't have the most current stable version of webmind. I also had to install that as well.

One thing they do not provide is as web statistics package. I've attempted to install webalizer, but it requires so many dependencies, which had not been installed, that I gave up.

Overall the VPS plan in good for those who already know how to run a server, or want to learn. However, the typical or casual user will not want to use it.
