I have been using 1and1 for half a year by now and they are a great hosting company from my experiences so far. I haven’t had my site go down once that I know of and the speeds from it are very good. You get plenty of space and bandwidth and I had no problems installing various scripts to my site.

However 1and1 did have few things that are not the best. I do not use their e-mail at all because it sux. You can't make your own usernames and the ones that are automatically generated would be insane to remember. You also can't make your own ftp usernames. Tech support is a bit slow. If you are not used to deal with websites, 1and1 would not be the best choice. There is no hand holding with this host. If you can't solve ur problem before to e-mailing or call them you should go elsewhere. It is also a very complicated to terminate service with them.

Despite all this I have found 1and1 to be a reasonable host to use.
