Messaging Bundles
Messaging Bundles can be used for both SMS and MMS messages. There are two types of Messaging Bundles, Once-off Messaging Bundles and Recurring Messaging Bundles. The bundle cost is the same for both Once-off and Recurring bundles (see the tariffs below). The difference is that Recurring Messaging Bundles have the added benefit of low out of bundle rates.
Benefits:
- Allows you to effectively budget and plan for spend on messaging services.
- Messaging costs are reduced.
- Attractive out of bundle rates on Recurring Messaging Bundles: This means you can continue to enjoy lower rates even when your bundle is depleted.
- Bundles can be used for SMS or MMS.
Once-off Messaging Bundles:
- Valid until the end of the next month.
- You may purchase multiple bundles according to your needs.
- Once the bundle is depleted, the standard messaging rates apply.
- You can purchase Once-off Messaging Bundles at any time. Dial *180#

Recurring Messaging Bundles:
- Valid for a calendar month and unused messages are forfeited at month end. Automatically renews each month on a month-to-month basis.
- Only one Recurring Messaging Bundle may be active at a time.
- Once your bundle is depleted, you can continue to send messages at reduced out of bundle rates (see table below)
- You can upgrade or downgrade your Recurring Messaging Bundles size – the change is effective the next month.

What are Messaging Bundles?
A Messaging Bundle is a cost-effective way to purchase a large quantity of messages that can be used over a period of time, to reduce your daily messaging spend. Bundles can be used to send standard SMS and MMS messages.
Are Messaging Bundles for SMS or MMS?
Messaging Bundles can be used to send SMS and MMS messages and any combination of both. Our Messaging Bundles are not only for SMS like other operators.
What is an SMS and an MMS?
One SMS is a text message of up to 160 characters. You will have 1 message deducted from your bundle for every 160 characters you send, for longer messages.
One MMS is a multimedia message of up to 300KB in size. You will have 1 message deducted from your bundle for every 300KB, for larger messages.
What kind of Messaging Bundles are available?
Messaging Bundles are available as a Once-off Bundle that can be purchased at anytime, or as a Recurring Bundle that is loaded onto your Postpaid plan and renew each month automatically.
How do I get a Messaging Bundle?
You can purchase Messaging Bundles in the following ways:

Add a Recurring Bundle to your Postpaid plan:
You can ask for a Recurring Messaging Bundle to be loaded onto your Postpaid plan at 8ta and Telkom Direct stores. You can also call the call centre on 180 to add a Recurring Messaging Bundle to your plan at anytime. Credit vetting may apply to your request.

Anyone can purchase a Once-off Messaging Bundle via USSD *180#:
Postpaid and Prepaid customers can purchase Once-off Messaging Bundles at anytime and add it to their Prepaid or Postpaid plan. Dial *180# and choose “Buy Bundles” then select “SMS/MMS Bundle”. Choose the bundle size you require and note the cost. Confirm your bundle purchase and then do a balance enquiry using *188# after a few seconds to check that your bundle has been loaded correctly. Prepaid customer should have sufficient airtime available. Postpaid customers should note that credit and spend limits on their account may affect the size of the bundle available for purchase.
Can I load a Recurring Bundle to my prepaid account?
No, currently Recurring Bundles can only be added to a Postpaid plan. Prepaid customers can purchase Once-off Messaging Bundles at any time via USSD by dialling *180# and choosing the “Buy Bundles” option, then “SMS/MMS Bundle”.
How many days is my Messaging Bundle valid for?
Recurring Messaging Bundles are valid for a calendar month and any unused messages expire at the end of the month. Once-off Messaging Bundles are valid up till the end of the next month after the month of purchase. Unused messages are forfeited once the bundle expires.
Can I use Messaging Bundles for premium SMS or other value added service numbers?
No, Messaging Bundles are only valid for normal person to person SMS and certain standard messaging rated services. Premium SMS, premium numbers and other value-added services have their own rates applicable and do not consume from the messaging bundle.
What do I pay for messages once my Messaging Bundles are finished?
For Recurring Messaging Bundles, once you have used up your bundle, then a special, lower out of bundle messaging rate applies to SMS that you send out of bundle. MMS messages will still be charged at standard MMS rates.
For Once-off Messaging bundles, no special out of bundle rates apply and you will be charged the standard rates for SMS and MMS sent out of bundle.
Will loading Messaging Bundles affect any promotions or bonuses on my plan?
Messaging Bundles are a convenient and cost-efficient way to budget for messaging. For this reason, certain promotions and bonuses may no longer apply to your plan if you load a Messaging Bundle, as Messaging Bundles have their own special messaging rates. The “Send 5 SMS and get 50 free for that day” promotion does not apply when sending in and out of bundle messages at lower rates and only applies to standard rated messages.
1. Recurring Messaging Bundles may only be purchased by Saver and Contract customers.
2. Recurring Messaging Bundles are valid for a calendar month and proration applies in the month of activation to both the tariff and the message bundle size.
3. Once-off Messaging Bundles may be purchased by Contract, Saver and Prepaid customers.
4. Once-off Messaging Bundles are valid till the end of the next month from the date of purchase.
5. Unused messages in a Messaging Bundle shall be forfeited at the end of the applicable validity period.
6. Messaging Bundles may be used for either SMS or MMS messages.
7. An SMS is defined as a message of 160 characters or less. Any SMS in excess of 160 characters shall be charged as an additional SMS per 160 characters.
8. An MMS is defined as a multimedia message of 300KB or less. Any MMS in excess of 300KB shall be charged as an additional MMS per 300KB.
9. MMS messages in excess of 300KB may not be successfully sent or delivered or received, as support for large MMS messages is not guaranteed on mobile devices.
10. Out-of-bundle rates for Once-off Messaging Bundles shall be the current standard messaging rate of the tariff plan for SMS and MMS once the bundle is depleted.
11. Special Out-of-bundle rates for recurring bundles apply to SMS only and standard messaging rates shall be charged for MMS once the bundle is depleted.

13. Messaging Bundles are intended for person to person messaging only.
14. Premium SMS, WASP services and other value added SMS or MMS services shall not consume Messaging Bundles and different messaging rates apply to these services.
15. If Messaging Bundles are loaded on a customer’s account, certain promotions, specials and bonuses may no longer apply.
16. Subscribers with a Recurring Messaging Bundle should note that SMSes sent at lower out of bundle rates do not count towards the “send 5 SMS and get 50 SMS free on that day” promotion. Only standard rated SMS or MMS counts towards this promotion.
17. Any abuse or fraudulent use of Messaging Bundles for abusive or commercial purposes can result in immediate suspension and subsequent investigations.
