  • SmartInternet Saver

    – Stands for "Media Access Control Address,” A MAC address is a hardware identification number that uniquely identifies each device on a network. The MAC address is manufactured into every network card, such as an Ethernet card or Wi-Fi card, and therefore cannot be changed.

  • 3G and LTE Data modems and routers that support download speeds of up to 7.2Mbp/s and up to 21Mbp/s will be available in store. The device speed has an impact on the network speed experienced by the subscriber.

  • LTE access is limited to availability of LTE network coverage.

  • Telkom Mobile and All Networks Internet bundles - Once-Off and Recurring are valid until the end of the following calendar month from date of activation.

  • The Telkom Mobile Night Surfer Internet Bundle can only be used to access data on Telkom Mobile’s network only between 11p.m. and5 a.m.

  • The out-of-bundle rate of R0.30 will apply for SmartInternet and SmartInternet Promo offers.

The countdown shall continue until the 30 minutes or 60 minutes cap is reached, then the subscriber shall subsequently have no access to Wi-Fi and shall be disconnected. The subscriber shall be required to purchase another Telkom Mobile Wi-Fi adhoc bundle to continue using the service.

  • Subscribers on Data offers which qualify for Free Unlimited Wi-Fi service can also link a MAC address of a secondary device e.g. laptop via Telkom Mobile’s Self Service Portal (http://www.8ta.com), to the Cellphone number that qualifies for Free Unlimited Wi-Fi. The linked device will be able to access Wi-Fi service. Only one device will be able to access data via Wi-Fi access at a time.

  • Wi-Fi access is limited to Telkom Mobile Wi-Fi Hotspot areas.

Migrations

  • Upward Migrations
    • An upward migration refers to the scenario when the subscriber wishes to move to a package of a higher subscription than the existing package, during the fixed term portion of the agreement.

    • The subscriber may upward migrate without any penalties at any time during the fixed term agreement.

    • The subscriber shall retain any balance of the Once-Off Internet bundles at time of upward migration.

    • The subscriber shall continue with the existing contract agreement, and shall not be considered to have entered into a new contract agreement based on the migration request.

    • Subscribers who are subscribed to old offers can migrate to the new broadband offers.

    • Upward migrations are limited to one instance per calendar month only.

  • Downward migrations
    • A downward migration refers to the scenario when the subscriber wishes to move to a package of a lower subscription than the existing package, during the fixed term portion of the agreement.

    • The subscriber will be liable to pay a migration fee for a downward migration, which will be determined at the time of requesting the migration.

    • The subscriber shall retain any balance of the Once-Off Internet bundles at time of downward migration.

    • Telkom Mobile shall, as a downward migration fee, recover the difference in handset subsidy between the original and the newly selected packages as well as a R400 incl. VAT administration fee.

    • The subscriber shall continue with the existing agreement, and shall not be considered to have entered into a new agreement based on the migration request.

Early Terminations

  • Early terminations refer to scenarios where the subscriber wishes to terminate the agreement prior to the agreement expiry.

  • The subscriber shall be liable to pay an early termination fee. The early termination fee will be calculated at the time of requesting the early termination.

  • Telkom Mobile shall, as an early termination fee, recover R800 administration fee and also recover the device subsidy for the remainder of the contract term.

Service Conversions

  • This refers to scenarios where a subscriber wishes to change from a post paid account to either a hybrid account or a pre-paid option.

  • Early termination shall be applicable, but the subscriber shall be permitted to retain the originally assigned mobile number allocated to him, or ported over by Telkom Mobile.

  • SmartInternet, SmartInternet Promo, SmartInternet Saver and SmartInternet Promo offers are eligible to purchase or subscribe to the following Internet bundles:

How will the Telkom Mobile Night Surfer Internet bundle work?
Telkom Mobile Night Surfer Internet Bundle can only be used to access data on Telkom Mobile’s 3G/LTE network between 11p.m. and 5a.m.



What happens when I am in an LTE coverage area?
You will be able to consume data via LTE network if you have an LTE compatible device and you have subscribed to new data offers. Your connection will fall back to 3G network when you move out of LTE coverage area.



Do I need to sign a contract to subscribe to any data offer on a month to month or 24 Month contract?
Yes, you need to sign a contract at the store of any of our channels.



What documents do I need to order the offer?
Customer must undergo credit vetting process to evaluate affordability, and customer must undergo RICA process. Customer needs present the following documents; Three Month Bank Statement, Recent Payslip and Proof of residence and ID or Passport document.



What happens to my airtime and / or data bundle balances that are active on my existing Telkom Mobile SIM Card when I convert or migrate to another offer?
All airtime (only if hybrid and prepaid) and Once-Off Internet bundle balances will be retained on the SIM card.



Will I be able to upgrade?
Yes, the subscriber shall retain any balance of the Once-Off Internet bundle at time of upward migration. The subscriber shall continue with the existing contract agreement, and shall not be considered to have entered into a new contract agreement based on the migration request. Upward migrations are limited to only one instance per calendar month.



Will I be able to downgrade?
Yes, the subscriber will be liable to pay a migration fee for a downward migration, which will be determined at the time of requesting the migration. What is Free Unlimited Wi-Fi Service?
Free Unlimited Wi-Fi is Telkom Mobile’s Wi-Fi access given to selected Postpaid and Hybrid contract offers to enable them to access data or Internet at Telkom Mobile’s Wi-Fi hotspot for free. Contract subscribers will only qualify for Free Unlimited Wi-Fi every month if Free Unlimited Wi-Fi access is specified as a feature of the offer or deal. Free Unlimited Wi-Fi for qualifying offers or deals will be allocated as follows: Free Unlimited Wi-Fi with a Fair usage cap of 10GB per month shall apply. The access is unlimited and will stop once the allocated access window has expired. The countdown of the access window begins once the Time Based Wi-Fi ad-hoc Bundle is activated, thus the user needs to be in a Telkom Mobile Wi-Fi Hotspot when purchasing the bundle.

  • Enter your MAC address
  • And Click save
  • Only one MAC address of the secondary device must be linked to the Free Unlimited Wi-Fi qualifying MSISDN.



Can the Cellphone with Free Unlimited Wi-Fi Service and the linked MAC address, access Wi-Fi at the same time?
No, either the handset with the Cellphone number that has been allocated Free Unlimited Wi-Fi or the device whose MAC address has been linked to Cellphone number can access Wi-Fi at one instance.



Can I access any Wi-Fi Hotspot to utilise Telkom Mobile Wi-Fi?
Wi-Fi access is only limited to Telkom Mobile Wi-Fi hotspots areas.
