FAQs

What paperwork is required to sign up at a store?
A: Please bring your latest payslip, proof of identification (ID or Passport), proof of residence and three months bank statements.

Can I port my existing data or voice MSISDN to the Internet 5 Promo?
A: No. A new SIM card is required as the offer is limited to the 8ta network only.

How much does it cost?
A: A once-off R200 fee is charged for the SIM and connection. The Internet 5 Promo offer is a 24 month contract at R199 per month. If you wish to add on the 10 GB Night Surfer bundle, the cost will be an additional R100 per month.

Where can I use it?
A: The service can only be used where 8ta has 3G coverage. Please check our coverage map to see if your area receives 8ta 3G coverage.

Does my Internet 5 Promo or 10GB Night Surfer data bundle balance carry over to the next month?
A: There is no carry-over of your data bundle balance to the next month. This means that any remaining Internet 5 Promo and 10GB Night Surfer bundle data balances will expire at the end of every month.

Can I purchase the 10GB Night Surfer product only?
A: No, the 10GB Night Surfer cannot be purchased as a stand-alone product

Can I add 10GB Night Surfer anytime during my 24 month Internet 5 Promo contractual period?
A: Yes. The 10GB Night Surfer can be added or removed anytime during the 24 month Internet 5 Promo contract.

Can an iPad subscriber purchase this offer from any of the participating stores?
A: Yes. An iPad uses Micro SIMs which will be available to iPad Users on the post-paid Internet 5 Promo from 8ta flagship stores and Telkom Direct stores only from the 1st of July 2011.  iPad users who wish  to access the existing iPad Pre-paid data bundles will still have to purchase the SIMs from Apple™ iStores™.

Usage Times:

Can I use my Internet 5 Promo Data Bundle at any time of the day?
A: Yes. The Internet 5 Promo Data Bundle can be used anytime. However, if a customer has purchased the 10 GB Night Surfer as an add-on to Internet 5 Promo, usage will be as follows:

  • Internet 5 Promo: Anytime of the day except between 11pm – 5am
  • 10 GB Night Surfer: Between 11pm – 5am only

How long is this promotion valid for?
A: The Internet 5 Promo is valid for a limited period of time, however, the subscriber will enjoy the product's full benefits for the full 24 month contractual period.

Do I have to pay a SIM and connection fee for both Internet 5 Promo and on request for 10GB Night Surfer?
A: No. The once-off SIM and connection fee is only charged when subscribing to the Internet 5 Promo.

Will I be charged the same rate for out-of-bundle rates, when my I’ve used all my In bundle data bundles?
A: No. All out-of-bundle data bundles are charged at a rate of 30c per MB.

What is the price for the once-off internet data bundles?

  • Once-off internet 100MB: R50.00
  • Once-off internet 250MB: R100.00
  • Once-off internet 500MB: R150.00
  • Once-off internet 1GB: R250.00

A: The following data modems are available at 8ta stores:

  • Huawei E173 (Capable of up to 7.2Mbps downlink and up to 5.76 uplink speed)
  • Huawei E1820 (Capable of  up to 21.6Mbps downlink and up to 5.76 uplink speed)
  • Coming soon Huawei E367 (Capable of up to 21.6Mbps downlink and up to 5.76 uplink speed

No modems will be bundled with this offer and customers will have the freedom to use existing modems or buy a modem from TDS and 8ta franchise stores. Data modems with speeds of up to 7.2Mbp/s and up to 21Mbp/s will be available in store. The device speed has an impact on the network speed experience by the subscriber.

Subscription to 8ta services is subject to network coverage and network availability. The service is a best-effort service and no guarantees are provided on availability or throughput.

A subscriber has a right to subscribe to a standalone Internet 5 Promo offer at R199 and in addition subscribe to a 10GB Night Surfer Data bundle for an extra R100.

No carry-over shall apply to the Internet 5 Promo offer with 10GB Night Surfer Data bundle.

The 10GB Night Surfer Data Bundle can only be used to access Internet between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m.

There is no time restriction on when the Internet 5 Promo offer can be used if the 10GB Night Surfer Data Bundle is not bolted on the offer or has been depleted.

A compatible device is required to use 8ta services. The maximum speed that can be experienced by the customer is dependent on the speed specification of the device.

The out-of-bundle rate of R 0.30 will apply.

8ta is not liable for any loss or damage to your property or equipment arising out of the provision, installation or maintenance and use of the service.

8ta will not incur any liability whatsoever for any loss or damage as a result of any use, authorised or unauthorised, resulting from virus attacks, security vulnerabilities, loss of information.

8ta mobile services support soft-cell handover.

Prices include VAT. Normal voice services are disabled, with the exception of emergency services (10111, 10177 and 112) and helpdesk (081 183).

SMS is enabled for normal usage, notification and balance enquiry.

Once-off internet data bundles will expire at the end of the next calendar month from the date of activation.

Inclusive data bundles will expire at the end of a month. RICA will apply. The service application process will only commence on the presentation of necessary supportive documentation.

Subscribers shall be migrated to any of the existing internet data offers at the end of the 24 month contract period.

SCHEDULE A: VARIATION AGREEMENT

WHEREAS the parties agree to add on to the Terms and Conditions of the subscriber agreement that was entered into;

NOW THEREFORE THE PARTIES AGREE AS FOLLOWS:

The parties wish to record the following:

1. Subscriptions to 8tas Internet 5 Promo and 10GB Night Surfer offer are subject to the following conditions:

1.1  Subscription to 8.ta services is subject to network coverage and network availability.

1.2  The subscriber shall be responsible for verifying the availability of 8ta’s coverage within the subscriber’s area.

1.3  The service is a best-effort service and no guarantees are provided on availability or throughput.

1.4  This offer will only be offered on 8ta’s network and the subscriber will not be able to roam on MTN’s network.

2. The subscriber warrants that he/she:

2.1   Is aware that this offer will only be offered on 8ta’s network.

2.2   Is aware that they will not be able to roam on MTN’s network.

2.3   Has verified the status of 8ta’s 3G coverage within the subscriber’s area and has verified that they fall within 8ta’s 3G coverage.

2.4   Has loaded up-to-date antivirus software on his/her computer equipment
